Missionary Preparation Ucon Stake

What is the purpose of this course?
The purpose of this 5-week preparation course is to provide the prospective missionary with the instruction, coaching, and practice necessary to help you and a companion teach a lesson on the Gospel of Jesus Christ to an individual or to a family in our stake by week four.

Who is this For?
All seniors in high school who would like to better prepare for service as a full-time missionary.

What do I bring?
Bring your paper scriptures, digital device (smartphone, tablet, or even a computer) and something to take notes on you can use for the five-week course.

What can I expect?
There is an outline for each week's lesson where you will find assignments you will be asked to complete prior to coming to the Sunday-evening class.

During class (which will last between 1 - 1.5 hours), we will review these assignments, discuss doctrine, share testimony, and learn from one another how to improving our teaching through application of divine patterns of sharing the gospel.

This 5-week course will be held every Sunday afternoon at 6 PM in the Ucon church building beginning March 1st and ending on March29th. Missionary dress is required.

THE FIRST VISION

To prepare for the first lesson, please do the following prior to class:

Prepare in Advance
1. Review the account of the First Vision found in Preach My Gospel (PMG), Chapter 3, Lesson 1 "The Restoration of the Gosepl of Jesus Christ through Joseph Smith".
2. You may also want to read the account found in Joseph Smith History, versus 8-19.
3. Practrice expressing and come prepared to share you testimoney of the first vision.
4. Pray for the Spirit to teach you as you prepare for and attend class.

What to expect
1. Discuss divine patterns of sharing the gospel.
2. Observe the teaching of the first vision demonstration.
3. Practice teaching the first vision in companionships.

THE BOOK OF MORMON

In preparation for this lesson, follow the assignments below.

Prepare in Advance
1. Memorize Joseph Smith History verses 16-17.
2. Study 'The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ" from Preach My Gospel, including the scripture study in blue.
3. Prayerfully consider how you would share the Book of Mormon with someone who is not familiar with it and come prepared to share two passages from the Book of Mormon that are personally meaningful to you.

What to expect
1. Review the purpose of the Book of Mormon
2. Practice teaching an introduction to the Book of Mormon in companionships.
3. Share with the group two passages of scriptures that are personally meaningfully to you.

TEACHING THE RESTORATION

In preparation for this lesson, follow the assignments below.

Prepare in Advance
1. From PMG, study Lesson 1, Sections:

The Gospel blesses individuals and families
Heavenly Father reveals His Gospel in every dispensation

What to expect
1. Be assinged a teaching companion for weeks 3 and 4.
2. Practice teaching Lesson 1 for week 4.
3. Receive specific teaching assignment for week 4.

FEEDING HIS SHEEP

1. Come spiritually prepared to teach.
2. Pray for guidance and assistance to teach the gospel to others.
3. Review the section in PMG that you will be teaching.

What to expect
1. As a companionship, teach the lesson from week three to a family in the Ucon Stake (pre-arranged).
