Ucon Stake : Doctrine of the Priesthood Series
Accessing greater
Priesthood Power
You are Invited
Brothers and Sisters, we invite you to join us on a 15-week journey to learn about and assimilate personal attributes that will help each of us access greater priesthood power. Our study will be aligned with the fifteen principles related to the doctrine of the priesthood as taught by Elder Dale G. Renlund and Sister Ruth Lybbert Renlund.
Our intention is not merely to ‘study’ and ‘learn’ doctrine, but also to conscientiously begin building these attributes within ourselves.
"Let thy bowels also be full of charity towards all men, and to the household of faith, and let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly; then shall thy confidence wax strong in the presence of God; and the doctrine of the priesthood shall distil upon thy soul as the dews from heaven."
D&C 121:45
How we will Start
Once a week, for fifteen weeks, we will provide a short 3-5 minute email message that covers an essential attribute found in the book. That will be the attribute upon which we suggest placing your focus for the week. We suggest that through periodic personal inventory you review how you are doing with the application of these attributes to your life and character. Ask loved ones how they think you are doing and accept loving guidance.
Why include Sisters?
We find it most notable that the book, ‘The Melchizedek Priesthood’, was written by both Elder Renlund and his wife, Ruth Lybbert Renlund. We are increasing our understanding that while men are holders of the priesthood, both men and women have equal access to priesthood power. Because the application of priesthood power rests upon our alignment with the nature of Heavenly Father and the Savior, we understand that the development of these personal attributes by both men and women is of great import. While Elder and Sister Renlund may commonly refer to "holders of the priesthood", we know that priesthood power can and should be wielded equally by both Heavenly Father’s sons and daughters. As we refer to "priesthood holders" in our study, we include both men and women - men who hold the priesthood, and women who wield its power.
“The priesthood deeply affects all Heavenly Father’s children, male and female, and both men and women need to understand it.”
Elder and Sister Renlund
Want More? The principles we are studying together come from the book, 'The Melchizedek Priesthood' by Elder Dale G. Renlund and Ruth Lybbert Renlund. Although there are many books on various subjects, including the priesthood, when an apostle of the Lord and his wife provide such instruction, we feel it important to take notice. While we have attempted to consolidate principles related to the doctrine of the priesthood found in the book, we recommend every individual read this work for themselves to gain even more understanding. As we study personal attributes described herein, we seek not only to learn the doctrine, but also to assimilate these attributes into our character. As we do this, we may discover where we fall short, but such recognition provides focus and helps us to become a better, more deliberate disciple of Jesus Christ.
